Master class for solo horn and horn quartet

From the 12th to the 15th of July 2020, Christoph Eß teaches a master class for up to eight horn players. Applications are highly welcomed both by individual players as well as by quartets. Every participant receives daily individual and ensemble lessons and there is plenty of time for private practicing, collective listening, and public concerts.

On July 15th, all participants present the fruits of their hard work in a public “Walking Concert”. This great finale of the class takes place in three passes within the setting of the beautiful baroque gardens of Hundisburg Castle.

Arrival should be arranged for July 11th. Departure is possible both after the final concert on July 15th as well as on July 16th by 10 a.m.

Clara Kroher,

Christoph Eß

Christoph Eß is considered one of the leading horn players of his generation. Apart from his work as solo horn player with the Bamberger Symphoniker, he received numerous international prizes and is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. Upon the winter semester 2017/2018, he followed a call to work as professor for horn at the Musikhochschule Lübeck.

As a soloist, Eß cooperated with many leading orchestras such as the Symphonieorchester of the Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, as well as the chamber orchestras of Munich, Stuttgart and Salzburg. Further productions with GENUIN classics, PragaDigitals, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Czech broadcasting, and the Swiss Radio DRS emphasise his achievements.

Moreover, Eß invests a lot of his time in chamber music. As the initiator of “german hornsound” – a horn quartet founded in 2010 – he regularly performs at renowned music festivals. In 2020, the quartet now offers a novelty: the “german hornsound Academy” with workshops for passionate horn players.

Eß completed his studies with Prof. Christian Lampert in Basel and Stuttgart and graduated with honours in 2008. Among other awards, he received a prize at the International Music Competition of the ARD in 2005, the Soloist Prize of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in 2008, as well as a stipend of the Deutscher Musikrat in 2009 and a prize of the Orpheum Stiftung Zürich in 2011.
